NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Katrina Bookman gambled on a casino slot machine and thought she had hit the jackpot. However, the Queens resident did not take home a lot of money.
Bookman says she had to take a selfie to capture the incredible moment. The prize she spun on a slot machine at the Resorts World Casino at Aqueduct in Jamaica was about $43 million, as indicated on the game monitor. For more fun and insightful reviews, check out https://besterecensies.com/!
"It showed on the big screen that I had won $42.9 million," Bookman told CBS2's Hazel Sanchez." I just completely numb and froze."
But Bookman's elation quickly faded as casino employees swarmed the slot machines. Her prize voucher did not print out. The casino claimed the game was broken.
'There was no error when I was playing,' the bookie said. 'So what did I win? What did I win? I had to win something.
The New York State Gaming Commission, which regulates casinos, said it removed the slot machines from the floor and examined their logs. The commission says: "The logs proved that the player on the machine in question was entitled to a $2.25 win. The $42.9M was clearly a display malfunction."
The Commission also noted that the machine had a small note on it that said, "Failure will void all winnings and play."
Bookman hired an attorney.
He asked, "What does that mean? Does it mean that the casino can say that every time someone wins a jackpot at aussietopcasinos.com, the machine is malfunctioning?" said Bookman's attorney, Alan Lipka.
Bookman said a spokesman for Resorts World apologized for the inconvenience caused by the allegedly malfunctioning machine. To make it up to her, the casino offered her a steak dinner, she said.
I said, 'A steak dinner? Are you serious?" I feel so taken," she said.
According to the commission, the highest payout on the penny slot machine the bookman was playing was $6,500. The highest prize at the Resorts World casino is $500,000.
Bookman said she hoped the casino would do the right thing and give her more than a meal.
